The Andorinha coffee table, designed in 1960 by Jorge Zalszupin, stands among the most striking sculptural pieces of Brazilian modernist furniture. Its name, meaning "swallow" in Portuguese, references the swallow bird-like silhouette of the table, whose dynamic asymmetry and tapered volume evoke a sense of flight and lightness.
Made from bent and polished jacaranda wood, the table features a cantilevered triangular side and a curved opposite end, creating a play of tension and balance. Underneath the tabletop, leather slings originally designed to hold newspapers or magazines add a tactile and functional detail, reinforcing Zalszupin’s talent for combining sculptural form with everyday use.
