Iconic designs by José Zanine Caldas, these armchairs were manufactured by Móveis Artísticos Z, the company he founded in São Paulo in 1948. The firm’s main objective was to develop a collection of furniture using exclusively the plywood cutting technique. At the time, plywood was an innovative material, not yet widely explored, and it allowed for more affordable production costs.
While structurally solid, these armchairs convey a sense of lightness thanks to their open, highly articulated wooden frames. They have been recently reupholstered in a vibrant yellow fabric , a nod to the bold, joyful colors so characteristic of the 1950s.
