Self-taught designer and architect, José Zanine Caldas started the company Moveis Artisticos Z in 1948. In the 50’s, inspired by the local craftsmen in Bahia, his hometown, he started experimenting with a more elemental approach. Deeply connected to the forest, Caldas tried as much as possible to use felled trees or to plant a new tree for each one used.

This upholstered lounge chair is designed with a cavunia plywood frame and enriched with natural colored rope, which appears as an elegant seam on the sides of the chair as if the artist had sewn it through the solid wood.
