Extremely versatile, Tomaso Buzzi (1900-1981) was a 20th century renaissance man as he was an architect, urban planner, glass and furniture designer as well as an interior designer. In 1932, he became one of the Artistic Directors of Venini, the world-famous Italian glass company - founded by Paolo Venini on the island of Murano. Buzzi’s careful study of lighting design and his love of experimentation resulted in major innovations in Murano glass light fixtures. The shapes of his objects are inspired by ancient sources. Buzzi also developed an intricate method of layering glass that achieves deep, luminous pastel colors. This floor lamp designed in the mid 1950s attests of Buzzi’s classical inspiration and his mastery of glasswork. The bright red color of the stem is illuminated by sparkles of gold.
