Iconic designs by José Zanine Caldas, those armchairs were manufactured by Moveis Artisticos Z, a company founded in 1948 by Zanine Caldas in Sao Paulo. The main aim of the company was to produce a collection of furniture using only the plywood cutting technique. The use of plywood, a raw material not yet explored at that time, allowed the company to reduce the cost of the production of the pieces.
While perfectly stable, those armchairs give an impression of lightness due to their highly constructive and open wooden structure. The armchairs were recently reupholstered with a beautiful bright yellow fabric that matches the colorful materials that were greatly appreciated in the 1950’s.
