This 1947 chair illustrates Finn Juhl’s early exploration of sculptural organic forms within functional furniture. Made in solid teak with a leather seat and backrest, the chair departs from traditional joinery by visually separating the seat and back from the frame, a signature of Juhl’s approach. The gently curved backrest and tapering legs reflect his architectural training and concern for comfort, proportion, and detailing. Designed at a time when Juhl was redefining Danish furniture aesthetics, this piece demonstrates the transition from artisanal cabinetmaking to expressive modern design.
